Whales and Souls

Actor: Chris Roe

Writer: Andrew Kramer
Director: Matt Renskers

A bucolic town is warned about an imminent threat in Whales and Souls.  When choosing whether to heed a warning by an uncommon source, the town leader sets the stage for the town downfall.

Chris Roe is very expressive in developing core bits of characters that may not deserve your sympathy whether the town is saved or not.

Armed with a simple set Roe is a tour de force being all seven characters in Whales from nuanced subtle roles that draw you in to the seething anger in parts that exhibit a shocking aggression.

Whales is an interesting show with a stellar performance by Chris Roe.

QUICK POINTS:

  • I recommend this show.
  • No substantive technical issues.
  • This show would play well at the Brooklyn Lyceum after the Lyceum deals with nimrod judges ( Coganlaw.org ) because: this show hits a Lyceum sweet spot, shows that are more than monologue but less than full stage production.
  • Bonus: ODDFELLOWS ICE CREAM across the street.
